Excellent, EXCELLENT story over at The Beheld about beauty, satire and whether or not our photos hit the mark. Really fantastic reading. Had to hop up from my history studies and post it immediately.
Is it me, or does this Mahalo.com guy have a sexy voice? Rowr.
Hi, how was your weekend?
Oh, that sounds pretty fun. Mine? It was pretty good.
How’s the dog? He’s good.
Oh, and before you ask- no, I haven’t heard anything. :)
A few people responded that they were very disappointed with my link to the Barstool Sports page. Let me clarify- by saying, “that’s totally cool,” I meant that they are allowed to have their own opinions, not that I was endorsing their message. I think it’s pretty obvious how I’d feel about that post.
Some REALLY interesting articles are starting to pop up. I feel like some of the sensationalism is starting to wear off and people are really considering the moral/social ramifications of the situation.
(Apologies if there are any repeat links, I’m trying to sort through what’s new and has original content.)
MetaFilter (huge thread)
And this one, because someone photoshopped pictures of me with a giant honeybee and on a video camera screen:
"AAAAGGGGHHH NO, NOT THE BEES!" I hope everyone has an excellent Monday. Trust me- if I hear anything, you’ll be the first to know.
Really enjoyed the questions from this one. Also, interesting thread in the comments- is it right to place a moral boycott an American company when it provides jobs and safe working conditions for people but frequent other places that might sell products from sweatshops in other countries, just because they have better advertising principles?
(That sentence is pretty poorly structured, but you get what I mean. Right?)
Excellent blog. Great insight on the power of social media. A really nice way to wash the Barstool Sports taste out of your mouth. :)
For me, it’s all about the difference of opinion. Here’s a strong one I haven’t had a direct link to post to, only inklings in various comments.
Remember- it’s all objective, and we all deserve our say. Agree or disagree, the lines of discussion are open, and that’s always important (at least in my book).
Whoa. So, today has been off the charts crazy. Lots of exciting calls and emails to do some writing and some talking, and lots of emails expressing love.
For that, I say a big time thank you.
I have NOT been contacted by American Apparel, which is the question I’m being asked the most at this moment. I also am not a secret employee who worked for American Apparel and surprise, they planned the whole thing. (This was probably one of the favorite comments a friend has forwarded to me so far. Conspiracy theories FTW.)
Some really great discussion going on at the following places:
I Am Bored (thanks, Fancylad, I appreciate the sentiment)
The Frisky (round up)
Fashionista (It’s a round up too, but I couldn’t pass up the fact that today Ali Lohan, Daphne Guinness and I are all in the same title of a blog. I smell a sitcom!)
Trendencias (I mean, seriously, how cool is the tagline “Adios American Apparel, hola Nancy Upton)
Seems like this subject is getting double amounts of press in the UK and in Brazil. Anybody have insight as to why those two places? It is super cool.
Should I abuse my power and have adorable, plus-sized Englishmen send me photos of themselves covered in salad dressing? I shan’t, I shan’t. But know the temptation is great.
I fell asleep in Chemistry class because I stayed up late to answer this interview. When the BBC calls, you answer.
I’m proud of the (each and every) BBC!
Words. Cannot. Even. Brain. Oof. I am overwhelmed. I will sleep and try to be more coherent tomorrow. I will also try to gather up another batch of links and commentary so that everyone can have a good cross-section of what people are saying.
For now, thank you so much for your support, and your EXCELLENT debate. I’m so happy to see people discussing concepts of acceptance and beauty. People are making incredible and astute points about the dialogue that is opening up.
Somebody even started a poll about the effectiveness of my project! You can vote yay or nay here.
Much, much, much love to all y’all.
