"That's not our demographic."

My name is Nancy Upton. I'm a size 12 and wanted to show American Apparel my fresh face (and full figure). My good friend Shannon Skloss came over to take some "booty-ful" photos of me...but I just couldn't stop eating.

I came in first place in the AA 'Next BIG Thing' contest, but won't be modeling for the company any time soon.

Tour Today

I’m coming to you now via my phone, as the hotel Internet situation was never resolved. It’s not extremely fun to text a blogpost, so I’ll be brief.

Today, Shannon and I are going to tour three of the American Apparel factories here in LA. I was approached by a few websites/publications to write about what we saw on our trip for them, but I think I’m going to keep it local on my
blagoblag for one specific reason-

I think it’s going to be extremely uneventful. Based on the schedule I received yesterday, we’re touring factories, not the offices of the company. I’m not sure we’re going to meet with or be introduced to many people. Dov is, from what I’ve been told, out of town on business.

I think the factory tours will be interesting, but the thing is- American Apparel doesn’t have to prove to anybody that their Rockefeller business model style manufacturing system is safe or sustainable. No one argues that their system of building clothes in America is actually a bad thing.

We came to LA with the intent of discussing marketing and the plus-size content debacle with creative minds of the company. It looks like that might not even happen. Whether it does or does not, I’ll post about it tonight or early tomorrow.
